- Macules: These are flat, red spots in the place of acne lesions and these in fact can persist for a number of weeks and eventually lighten on their own.
- Skin discoloration: There are times when your acne scar can leave your skin discoloured and this is also known as post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Skin discoloration mostly remains visible for months after the acne lesion has healed.
- Tissue scars: Some acne can be severe which can leave scars which can look bigger and some times worse or with raised tissue growth. These acne scars are known as keloids or hypertrophic scars. Usually the excess production of collagen in our skin causes these types of scars.
- Tissue loss: Acne scars that are caused by loss of any tissue are much more common than acne scars caused by raised tissues. These acnes scars are even sometimes called the ice prick scars, soft scars, depressed fibrotic scars, atrophic macules etc. they mostly appear to be sunken and looks like a pit on the skin.

These treatments can lighten the appearance of your scars but removing them completely will take time.
