Masterbatches are substances that are amplified to a thermoplastic polymer to give polymer a color or to impart other properties to plastics like molding etc.
Master batches enable the processor to color a raw polymer according to the needs and demands.
The three types of master batches are:
- Solid or pallets
There are certain predefined ways in which different masterbatches are made, for example pellets are made by mixing a polymer with pigment and additives while blundering all these ingredients in just a powder form would lead to the formation of powder masterbatches.
Master batches are used widely in plastic industries and have various applications. One important factor in masterbatches is its let down ratio. The ratio of additive carriers may vary from 1-5% or less or more than that depending on the plastic and its application. The let down ratio also depends on economics, size of the machine, dispersion requirements, and some other factors.
